The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) Public Safety and Security Department – Fire and Emergency Division successfully held the first-ever AFAB Fire Olympics on March 27, 2025, in celebration of Fire Prevention Month. The event gathered nine AFAB locators, including AboitizPower subsidiary GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), in an exciting competition designed to test fire response skills, teamwork, and emergency preparedness.
Participants competed in a series of high-intensity challenges aimed at evaluating their speed, accuracy, and fire-fighting capabilities. The elimination round featured the Busted Hose Replacement and Bucket Relay events, where teams were tested on their ability to handle fire-fighting equipment with precision and efficiency. Those who advanced to the final round competed in the Fire Extinguisher event, a critical test of their ability to contain and control fire emergencies.
Demonstrating exceptional skill and coordination, the GNPD Fire Brigade Elite Team dominated the competition, securing first place in two out of three events. Despite receiving a 10-second penalty in the hose replacement challenge, the team’s precision and speed enabled them to clinch the overall championship title of the inaugural AFAB Fire Olympics. Their strong performance in the final round solidified their position as the top fire response team in the competition.
The winning team was composed of Jayson Reyes, Joshua Padilla, Eugene Dasalla, John Paul Samaniego, Ramsey Tosio, Patrick Manantan, and Michael Dungo. They were guided by their coach, GNPD Safety, Health, and Environment Manager John Paulo Lazaro, who played a key role in their training and strategy. Their victory reflected their dedication to safety excellence and teamwork.
“This event highlights the critical importance of fire safety preparedness across industries,” Lazaro stated. “We are honored to take part in this initiative and to uphold safety excellence in our workplace and beyond.” His remarks underscored the significance of continuous training and readiness in fire prevention and emergency response.
The AFAB Fire Olympics 2025 set a new standard for fire emergency preparedness within the Freeport Area of Bataan. The competition not only showcased the exceptional skills of the participating teams but also reinforced the importance of ongoing training, collaboration, and safety awareness to create a secure and resilient workplace.
